Cardiac Implanted Electronic Devices
The cardiac anesthesiology group is an integrated part of the perioperative cardiac implanted electronic device (CIED) management service. We perform device interrogation and reprogramming of devices in patients presenting for cardiac surgery and provide consultation for device management in the perioperative setting. Programmers from 3 major vendors are dedicated for OR use and are immediately available. Our group functions as part of the electrophysiology team to provide pre-operative device assessment and reprogramming as well as post-procedure inpatient management.
Our cardiac anesthesia fellows are trained in assessment and reprogramming of CIEDs throughout the program. Didactic lectures and hands-on experience with training software are used in addition to clinical teaching to develop expertise in device management.
