Soban Umar, MD, PhD

Congratulations to Soban Umar, MD, PhD! Dr. Umar is lead author of the scientific abstract that has been named "Best Abstract of the Meeting" in basic science for the upcoming American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) annual meeting in Chicago next month. Dr. Umar's research was selected by a panel of judges including editors of the journal Anesthesiology and other scientific leaders in the ASA.

The abstract, "Severe Pulmonary Hypertension and Right Ventricular Dysfunction is Associated with Changes in Ubiquitin Proteasome System" will be presented in a special session, "Best of Abstracts", on Sunday, October 23, starting at 1:15 p.m. Dr. Umar's co-authors are Shannamar Dewey, PhD, Ali Navid Said, BSc, Aldrin Gomes, PhD, and Mansoureh Ehgbali, Ph.D. Dr. Umar will be presented with a $1000 prize at the beginning of the session.

If you are attending the ASA annual meeting, please congratulate Dr. Umar and celebrate with us at the UCLA Dinner Social on Saturday, October 22, starting at 7 p.m. The location is Drumbar, the rooftop bar at the boutique Raffaello Hotel, located just off Michigan Avenue at 201 E. Delaware Place. Named one of the top ten whiskey bars in America by GQ, Drumbar's 18th floor location offers an indoor lounge and an outdoor terrace with great views of Lake Michigan.

We are proud that so many members of our department will be presenting their work at this year's ASA meeting. Congratulations to all for an outstanding UCLA presence! Here's a complete list of UCLA presentations, including abstracts, posters, lectures, case presentations, panels, and problem-based learning discussions.
